Operation Teen Status Check - HIV/AIDS initiative for Youth

Hip Hop Education Announces

Operation Teen Status Check Hip Hop Education's new HIV/AIDS initiative "Operation Teen Status Check" will educate teens ages 13 to19 by launching an educational and testing movement for youth. Train at least 20 Youth HIV peer educators who will participate in a 4-6 hour curriculum called Be Proud Be Responsible. The curriculum will teach Youth educators about HIV/Aids and STD transmission, abstinence and practicing safe sex and proper use of a condom. We will partner with local Health Departments, Aids Service Organizations and Community Base Organizations to assist with the testing. Forums will be held with HIV positive teens who will tell their stories and why teens should care about staying HIV negative.

Why the need?
Roughly one million people living with HIV/AIDS in the United States. African Americans account for 48% of new HIV infections. One child dies every minute. Every fifteen seconds, another person age 15-24 becomes infected with HIV/AIDS Some Teens think that it can't happen to them, if they are only having oral sex

In 2007:
African American teens (ages 13-19) represent only 15% of the U.S. teenagers, they account for 68% of new AIDS cases reported among teens in 2007 African Americans accounted for 51% (21,754) of the new HIV/AIDS diagnoses in 34 states with long-term, confidential named-based HIV reporting African Americans accounted for 48% (264,927) of the total persons, including children, living with HIV/AIDS in 34 states with long-term, confidential name-based HIV reporting.

African Americans accounted for 40% (225,517)of the total persons with AIDS who died by the end of 2007 Operation Teen Status Check is in the Runnig for $50,000 Grant Pepsi is giving away funds and our project is in the running for the month of May.
